The Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education promotes the visibility of immigrant education as a national issue, by highlighting the critical role of community colleges and increasing access to relevant research and information. We are achieving this through numerous our publications, presentations, and expanded resources.
CCCIE staff and Blue Ribbon Panelists work together to increase awareness of immigrant education issues among educators, researchers, professional associations, and government officials, and to promote more effective immigrant education policies and programs.
The American Association of Community Colleges, a Blue Ribbon Panel member, serves as the lobbying group for community colleges on the federal level and their participation on our national Blue Ribbon Panel allows CCCIE’s position to be heard in matters of policy and practice affecting immigrant students.
Currently, we are focusing on two community college initiatives to develop resources that assist:
- Undocumented students gain access to community colleges, particularly in light of the Obama administration’s recent Deferred Action policy.
- Internationally educated immigrants (both current students and community residents) with credential evaluation and career pathways.
