The article features a variety of community college programs that are opening their doors to migrant workers, including South Texas College’s dual enrollment high-school classes that better match migrant work patterns, as well as programs that train migrant workers for careers in such high-demand fields as green construction, phlebotomy, and nursing. Also notes the White House Initiative on Excellence for Hispanic Americans, chaired by Miami Dade College President Eduardo Patron, which will help the Obama administration improve educational prospects for Hispanic students.
